Rutan Aerospace Celebration 2008 (RAC)

In celebration of the beginning of flight-testing for WhiteKnightTwo and SpaceShipTwo, the san diego modo user group is hosting a group project modeling (and possibly animating) some of the 50+ aerospace projects built by Burt Rutan, Rutan Aircraft Factory and SCALED Composites over the past 40 years. This group modeling project is open to anyone in the global modo community.

Rainy Day Race - Animated Short

The San Diego LightWave User Group is working on a short (4 minute) 3D animated cartoon to submit to computer animation festivals. The final film with be put together in LightWave and MotionBuilder, but assets can be created in any program that can export to LightWave (including modo).

The san diego modo user group has been formally invited and is encouraged to participate and help with this project. If you can contribute by making models (hard body supporting objects or soft body characters), rigging, surfacing, painting, texturing, lighting, environment backdrops, animating, camera motion, rendering, voiceover or whatever, your help will be greatly appreciated.

This is a fun opportunity to share and learn and also to get your name in the credits! ;-)

SIGGRAPH 2007 Luxology modo User Event at the San Diego Air & Space Museum

Our group assisted Luxology in organizing a modo user event during SIGGRAPH 2007 inside the San Diego Air & Space Museum in Balboa Park form 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Sunday August 5, 2007.

In celebration of this special event, our group modeled 7 of the most prominent exhibits at the museum using Luxology's modo 203. On Friday June 1, 2007 Luxology opened participation in this project to the entire global modo user community. As a result, 60 modo artists from 10 countries and 13 US States built: 45 of the 70 main aerospace craft exhibits; 2 classic cars; and the exterior, interior and several significant details of the museum itself. Each of these projects (70 total) were published separately as Work in Progress (WIP) threads in the Luxology WIP forum. These threads were later collected in a dedicated Community Projects forum. A video was also produced for presentation at the modo user event - including some animated scenes created using Luxology's modo 301 beta.

All of the models created for this project were donated to the museum and to the entire global modo user community. That huge library of high-quality assets is being prepared for download from the Luxology modo website. A link to that download page will be added here when ready.

The san diego modo user group is dedicated to sharing and learning about Luxology's modo. This project accomplished those goals FAR beyond our wildest expectations!

We hope that you will all share, learn and enjoy!
